I’d like to compliment Eller on a compelling defense of school voucher programs by completely misrepresenting them. What Eller did not explain is that school vouchers allow taxpayers to not pay their portion of taxes that would normally be used to support public education and instead use that money to pay for tuition at a private school.
The problem with this idea is that it’s completely without precedent and ridiculous. I’m sorry but you don’t get to opt out of the parts of your taxes that you aren’t going to use. I don’t get to opt out of supporting the state police, and instead use the money to buy a gun to defend myself, even if I might think the gun would be more effective.
