After dominating on the road against Montana and Gonzaga, Cal Poly Women’s Tennis cruised to their first home and Big West win of the season against UC Davis at the Mustang Tennis Complex.

The Mustangs (3-0, 1-0 Big West) marched to a 6-1 victory over the Aggies (2-5, 0-2 Big West) by securing the doubles point and grabbing five out of six singles matches.

The 2 p.m. game was moved to 10 a.m. to avoid the rain on Saturday, Feb. 3. The switch to an early start time didn’t affect the women, as they secured their third 6-1 victory in as many matches.

Kicking off the dual was fifth-year Delanie Dunkle and younger sister, junior Peyton Dunkle, knocking the Aggies off by a score of 6-1. It’s the Dunkle sisters’ third win of the season at the No. 1 spot.

Highlighting the next duo’s matchup was junior Romane Mosse and sophomore Sarah MacCallum. They clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory at the No. 3 spot.

The sophomore duo of Kennedy Buntrock and Alexandra Ozerets went unfinished at the No. 2 spot.

Ozerets continued her stellar play at Cal Poly with a 6-0, 6-3 victory, to put the Mustangs up 2-0. The 2023 Big West Freshman of the Year played at the No. 5 spot on Saturday, after getting two victories on the road at the No. 6 spot. She’s 10-2 in her collegiate career at the No. 6, and now 7-4 at the No. 5.

Peyton won the next singles match at No. 2, putting the women up to a convincing 3-0 lead with a 6-4, 6-4 win. Playing at the No. 4, Buntrock grabbed her singles victory with a dominant third set of 6-0.

The No. 6 MacCallum, who did not play on the road in their first two matches, clinched the game after securing a hard-fought three-set victory. After only scoring one point in the first set, she rallied in the second to an 8-6 win. She then closed the third set by a 6-3 score, which put the Mustangs on top five points to none.

The Aggies got their lone point of the day after Mosse dropped a three-set battle at the No. 3 spot.

Delanie finalized Saturday’s 6-1 score as she won a thrilling final two sets, after dropping the first. She improves to 2-1 in her collegiate career at the No. 1 singles spot.

The Mustangs will be back on the road for two matches as they head north to play San Jose State on Friday, Feb. 9, and San Francisco on Saturday, Feb. 10.
