The Up and Up Festival invites Cal Poly students to participate in a pre-sale competition to win a music festival headlined by Disco Lines. Pre-sale tickets went live on Tuesday and the contest ends on Thursday at 1 p.m.
Cal Poly will compete with over 60 other colleges to watch artist Disco Lines perform his hits, including TikTok famous “Baby Girl” and “RWEOK.”
Students can claim a pre-sale ticket for free, but will be charged if Cal Poly wins the contest. The four colleges that sell the most pre-sale tickets in 48 hours will receive a music festival in their college town, according to the festival website.
Launched in 2006, the Up and Up Festival’s presale competition aims to “foster community” in bringing a “memorable” concert experience to colleges, according to their website. Every semester, the festival leaves it up to the students themselves to determine if they are the recipient of a performance by an EDM headliner.
The festival also recruits students from college campuses all over the country to become ambassadors and rally the student body.
Kailey Dodson is the head of the Cal Poly ambassador team and oversees recruitment of students for the ambassador program.
“The ambassador program is a fantastic and easy way to get yourself involved in marketing, event-planning and the music industry overall,” Dodson said.
Dodson hopes to “elevate students’ college experience [and] bring more house and EDM music to SLO” by winning the competition.
“Over the past year I’ve first-hand experienced the freedom of expression and unity that is ingrained in EDM and house music culture,” Dodson said. “Up & Up’s ultimate goal is to bring not only the music-lovers but whole student communities together to win and experience something they’ll never forget.”
Business administration junior Connor Casey is an ambassador for the Up and Up festival. Casey hopes that winning the festival will not only “be an awesome opportunity for students [but could also] bring more live shows and music to San Luis Obispo.”
“I love house and EDM music,” Casey said. “Going to live events is a great experience and you don’t always get those opportunities in [San Luis Obispo].”
Dodson also is a member of the EDM community and enjoys the camaraderie it offers.
“What I’ve found from working and being a part of the [EDM community] is that it’s anything but exclusive,” Dodson said. “It’s full of welcoming people that are there to share their concert experience with the people they love.”
