Cal Poly Women’s Tennis was back at Mustang Tennis Complex for the first time since Feb. 3 with a home dual against the Santa Clara Broncos.
The Mustangs took full advantage of home court (5-5), outlasting the Broncos (2-5) by a score of 5-2 in a battle in the windy conditions that lasted just under four hours.
Junior Peyton Dunkle and fifth-year Delanie Dunkle got the Stangs some early momentum with a victory at line No. 1 with a 6-2 victory.
The Dunkle sisters pairing now boasts a 7-2 doubles record on the season.
Cal Poly clinched the doubles point after grad-student Melissa LaMette and junior Romane Mosse took a 6-4 win, putting the Mustangs out front 1-0 overall.
Sophomore Kennedy Buntrock continued her hot streak, rolling her opponent 6-1, 6-1 at the fourth line, Mustangs up 2-0.
Peyton Dunkle put Cal Poly within a match of the overall victory after she cruised to a straight-set 6-3, 6-0 win at line No. 2.
Mosse delivered at line No. 6 to help clinch the match for the Mustangs 6-4, 6-4 putting them ahead 4-1 with only two matches remaining.
Cal Poly could relax a little with the overall match in their favor but sophomore Sasha Ozerets was still in a grueling three-setter after losing the first set 3-6 then rallying back to take the second 6-3.
Ozerets kept her second set confidence riding into the third pounding forehands, staying solid on the baseline, swifty taking the third set for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win.
The Mustangs are back in the win column after a four-match losing streak and will be traveling down south next weekend, getting into a Big West battle versus Cal State Northridge on Friday.
