Cal Poly women’s basketball saw their starters show out against the University of Montana 65-55, in their first road win of the season on Thursday.

The Mustangs (2-2) made 47% of their three-pointers, converting nine as a team, while the Grizzlies (1-2) only mustered a 20% shooting clip from beyond the arc.

Senior guard Annika Shah led the way with 21 points, 11 coming in the first five minutes of the game. She finished the game 4-for-7 from three-point range.

Sophomore forward Mary Carter hit three triples in the game in her season-high 16 points.

Shah, Carter, sophomore forward Sierra Lichtie and senior guard Sidney Richards all put up double-digit points and reached a new season-high.

Defensively, the Mustangs forced 18 turnovers on the Grizzlies as they held their early lead for the rest of the game.

The Mustangs still have three non-conference battles before they begin their Big West schedule in December as head coach Shanele Stires looks to improve upon her first two seasons at Cal Poly.

The Mustangs will return home on Tuesday, Nov. 19 to take on Life Pacific (3-3) at 6 p.m. at Mott Athletics Center.

Pacific Life previously lost to UC Merced, an opponent Cal Poly beat 72-40.

Their final matchup before their first Big West game will be at Stanford University on Monday, Nov. 25.
