Cal Poly Football announced 16 commits for the early signing period for high school football recruits on Wednesday.
The early signing period for college football prospects started Wednesday, Dec. 11 and ended on Friday, Dec. 6. Head Coach Paul Wulff and his staff collected multiple three-star high school recruits by 247sports.
The first phase of offseason recruiting has begun, with new high school signees joining the team.
This also comes with some contributing players announcing they have entered the transfer portal in redshirt freshman running back Aiden Ramos, redshirt sophomore defensive back Kai Rapolla and redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Jordan Sanders via social media.
Here is an overview of notable signees:
Savion Taylor (ATH)
Taylor is listed as the 104th best recruit in California and has a three-star rating on 247sports, making him Cal Poly’s highest-rated recruit on 247sports for the class of 2025.
He attended Pacifica High School and played wide receiver and strong safety, collecting 1255 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns this season. He also played volleyball for Pacifica.
The 6-foot, 201-pound player is listed as ATH (athlete) for the Mustangs, meaning he may get looks from multiple positions.
He chose Cal Poly over multiple Power 4 schools, such as Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, the University of California and the University of Colorado Boulder.
Jonathan Ybarra (IOL)
Ybarra, who committed to Cal Poly in July after receiving offers from the Air Force and Army, stands at 6-2 and 280 pounds. In May 2023, he earned overall MVP honors at the National Preps Showcase.
He also won MVP in the offensive line group at the Cal Poly Camp in June 2023. He is the 172nd-ranked recruit in California and lives in Sanger.
Abu Fofanah (OT)
Like last season, Cal Poly continues to recruit highly-touted offensive line recruits.
From Granite Hills High School in Apple Valley, his 6-foot-4-inch, 290-pound stature and immense strength should provide some push in the outside running game.
Stacy Gentle Jr. (CB)
Gentle played the cornerback and wide receiver positions throughout his high school career at Paraclete, but signed to the team to play cornerback.
According to MaxPreps, Gentle earned 93 tackles and two interceptions throughout his sophomore and junior years.
Christopher Solis-Lumar (ATH)
Initially, Solis-Lumar verbally committed to Boise State. However, he announced his decommitment on October 30.
Solis-Lumar is listed at 6-foot-2-inch and 180 pounds out of Arcadia High School and was known for his feats as a wide receiver and a cornerback.
Kaleb Pleis (Edge)
Hailing from San Ramon Valley High School, Pleis adds more depth to the defensive line room, losing key player Elijah Ponder to graduation.
The 6-inch-4-inch, 215-pound defensive end highly contributed to a 7-0 shutout win over Cardinal Newman in the playoffs with two sacks and six total tackles.
Leo Cocchiglia (OT)
Also receiving offers from other Big Sky teams Eastern Washington and the University of Idaho, Cocchiglia committed to Cal Poly over the summer.
He played strong guard for Los Gatos High School but committed to Cal Poly as a tackle, standing at 6 feet 5 inches and 250 pounds.
Luke Westfall (Edge)
The Mustangs add another defensive lineman from Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego.
Westfall, who measures out at 6 feet 3 inches and 280 pounds, will join his teammate Victory Johnson, who transferred to Cal Poly last year from the University of Colorado.
He also received offers from Big Sky opponents Montana State, Northern Arizona and Sacramento State.
Sam Wulff (QB)
Sam is the son of Cal Poly’s head coach, Paul Wulff. Playing locally at Arroyo Grande High School.
He will join a competitive quarterback room with redshirt sophomore Bo Kelly, redshirt junior Jaden Jones, sophomore Jackson Akins and redshirt sophomore Richie Watts, who all started at least one game for Cal Poly this season.
