In the official home debut of the new Comerford Pavillion, Cal Poly Women’s Tennis played host to Montana State on Friday, Jan. 24. 

The Mustangs (2-1) convincingly took this matchup rolling to a 6-1 victory. The lone point for the Bobcats (1-3) came in the overall doubles point. 

But at line No. 3, Cal Poly’s duo of junior Amy Leather and senior Sarah MacCallum showed their dominance in a 6-1 victory.

The Mustangs, down 1-0 to begin, turned the page to their singles lines, where they would take control.

Five out of six of the Cal Poly singles lines dropped four games or fewer on the afternoon.

Sarah MacCallum evened the score for Cal Poly, making quick work of her opponent at line No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-0 win.

At line No. 4, Sarah’s younger sister, Jessica MacCallum, was the next match to finis,h giving Cal Poly the lead. 

The freshman, Jessica, rolled over her opponent, taking her down in a 6-2, 6-1 fashion. 

The MacCallums set the tone, and the Mustangs never looked back.

Sophomore Natalie Lynch would be next to get in on the action, battling at line No. 5.

Lynch showed off her overwhelming power, beating her opponent in style, 6-2, 6-2.

Playing on court No. 3 was junior Sasha Ozerets, she too asserted her will on the Bobcat opponent. Ozerets cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory.

Junior Kennedy Buntrock won in straight sets at the top line, No. 1. Buntrock showed off her groundstroke dominance in a 6-3, 6-1 win.

All the while, junior Romane Mosse was in a marathon of a match on court No. 2. 

Mosse dropped the first set 7-5 but came back with a vengeance and forced a third-set tiebreaker after taking the second set 6-4.

In a 10-point tiebreaker, with all the pressure on and her teammates cheering her through, Moose prevailed with a 10-5 tiebreaker victory. 

Sunday match versus Santa Clara postponed

Originally slated to take on the Santa Clara Broncos on Sunday, the weather forecast showed rain in the afternoon.

Their match has been postponed and rescheduled for March 15 at the Ronca Tennis Center. 

Cal Poly will have this next week off before returning home to host Washington State on Friday, Feb. 7 at noon.
