Hello out there wherever you may be, Cal Poly’s first ever game in the Mountain State in any sport is also Cal Poly Baseball’s first foray into the Super Regionals. No. 16 West Virginia finished second in both the Big 12 regular season and postseason behind Kansas. The Mountaineers needed to surge through the losers bracket of the Morgantown Regional, beating Kentucky twice to secure their third straight Super Regional appearance. The Mustangs swept through the Los Angeles Regional, beating Virginia Tech once and Saint Mary’s twice avoiding No. 1 UCLA.
Pitching matchups are a little different than what we thought. Griffin Naess (8-4, 4.00) is going for the Mustangs as expected, but West Virginia is not throwing Big 12 pitcher of the year Maxx Yehl and are instead going to RHP Chansen Cole (9-1, 2.87). First pitch is scheduled for 9 am PT/noon ET.
The lineup for Cal Poly is the same as it was for all three games in the Regional. Castellon – SS, Garza – 3B, Kordic – RF, Tayman – C, Hoiland – DH, Downing – 2B, Murray Jr. – CF, Spiridonoff – 1B, Vachini – LF
