Former Cal Poly shortstop Brooks Lee has received the call that he will make his major league debut with the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday.
Lee was the No. 8 overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft, the highest any Mustang had been drafted in program history.
The 23-year-old was on the injured list for the first two months of this season with a herniated disc in his lower back.
Since then, Lee has swung a hot bat hitting a .350 batting average and a .997 on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) in 123 at-bats across three minor league levels.
In Triple-A St. Paul, Lee currently boasts a .329 average with a 1.029 OPS in 85 at-bats.
While at Cal Poly, Lee racked up accolades while playing under head coach, and his father, Larry Lee.
In 2021, he earned co-Big West Player of the Year, two All-American first teams and six total after hitting a .342 average and a 1.010 OPS.
In 2022, the San Luis Obispo native was named to every preseason All-American team, earned Big West Player of the Year for the second year in a row, was a semifinalist for both the Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy, was given the Brooks Wallace Award for the nation’s best shortstop and was a consensus first-team All American.
Lee will look to continue his success and contribute to the Twins’ playoff push.
