Looking to fill the gap of eight graduating seniors from the 2024-25 roster, the Mustangs have added three more players to their 2025 recruiting class.

Cal Poly men’s basketball made the Big West semifinals in head coach Mike DeGeorge’s first season at the helm. With a rebuild that has already shown results, the Mustangs will look to recreate their three-point focused, competitive style of basketball going into DeGeorge’s sophomore season.

Cal Poly adds to their depth at guard and forward with their three newest assets, Jake Davis, Austin Goode and Ali Assran, according to Verbal Commits. The players come into a roster that has already been bolstered by three commits the team signed this season, marking a new era of Cal Poly basketball.

Jake Davis

6 ’4 Guard, West Valley College

Jake Davis is a textbook definition of a sharpshooter. In his sophomore season at West Valley College, he was lights-out from three, shooting 50.7 percent, a mark that would have led Division-I last season.

The guard from West Valley will have the green light on a Mustang squad that ranked second in the NCAA in three-point attempts last year, with over 1100 shots from deep.

Davis also has a past with the Cal Poly coaching staff, playing under assistant coach Sam Walters during a 2023-24 season at West Valley College where the Vikings finished with a perfect 33-0 record and a CCCAA championship.

Austin Goode

6 ’7 Guard/Forward, Royal Crown Academy (Toronto, Canada)

If the name Royal Crown Academy rings a bell for you, it should. Freshman Peter Bandejl attended Royal Crown, and once more, the Mustangs ventured into the Great White North to sign his former teammate, Austin Goode.

Goode is a 6-foot 7-inch athletic defender who can guard positions 1-4 and relishes the chance to matchup against the other team’s strongest player. Named to the preliminary squad for the FIBA U19 World Cup, Goode can take defenders off the dribble or knock down catch-and-shoot threes.

Ali Assran

6 ‘9 Power Forward, Al-Ahly (Cairo, Egypt)

The first thing that jumps out when you watch Ali Assran’s highlight reel is the fluidity that the Egyptian has on the court. Whether it’s going coast to coast with the basketball or running in from the help side to swat a shot away, he has a smoothness to his game that is hard to teach.

Assran has played for Egypt at the national level since 2023 at various FIBA competitions and was part of 2025 Basketball Without Borders Global Camp. At 6-foot 9-inches, Assran will be one of the tallest players on the Cal Poly roster next season.

In an offense heavily reliant on threes, each recruit adds another weapon from deep for the Mustangs. With so many roster spots opening up, all three players have the potential to make an impact from day one on DeGeorge’s squad next season.
