Cal Poly Men’s Basketball defeated their first ACC opponent in program history on Saturday, toppling Stanford 97-90.

It marks their first win against the Cardinal since 1976 and, after a close call against Arizona State, their first win against a Power 4 conference since defeating UCLA in 2012.

The Mustangs were powered by massive games from senior guard Isaac Jessup and graduate swingman Owen Koonce, who had a career-high 30 points.

Cal Poly trailed for most of the first half, and as Stanford’s lead grew throughout the half, it looked like they might start to run away with the game.

With four minutes to play, Jessup hit back-to-back threes to take a lead that Cal Poly would never relinquish. A three with a minute left from graduate guard Jarred Hyder and a layup from graduate guard Mac Riniker sealed the game.

The offense has come alive this year, scoring almost 100 points tonight and under 70 points in only one game.

With the win, Cal Poly has surpassed their win total from last season before conference play has started.
