Cal Poly Track and Field’s top performers put on a show once again as they traveled to Azusa Pacific University for the Bryan Clay Invitational.

In the three-day event spanning Thursday, April 11 through Saturday, April 13, sophomore Tatiana Cornejo and graduate student Davis Bove finished with times in the top five in Cal Poly program history.

Meanwhile, the men’s 4×100 relay posted the best program time in 13 years.

Cornejo became just the fifth Mustang ever to run a sub-16 minute time in the women’s 5,000-meter with a final time of 15:56.19, which is good for fourth in program history.

Bove continued his dominant season by setting the fourth-best time in program history in the men’s 1,500 (3:42.04), which is the second event he has set a top-five time for this season.

In the men’s 4×100 relay, the Mustangs placed sixth with 40.92, which was their best time since 2011. The runners involved were junior Noah Bustos, freshman Ryan Teeple, freshman Baden Bunch and sophomore MacGregor TeSelle.

The Mustangs also had athletes competing at the Long Beach Invitational on April 12-13 and the Leopard Distance Carnival on April 12.

The Mustangs hold four top 25 nationally ranked groups and look to be a competitive and well-rounded team heading into the late stages of the season.

In the April 9 edition of the USTFCCCA #EventSquad rankings, the Mustangs appeared No. 12 in the men’s javelin, No. 12 in men’s 5000 meters, No. 24 in men’s hammer and No. 24 in women’s high jump.

They will now travel to Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California for the Mt. SAC Relays from April 18-20, the first of three remaining meets before the Big West Track and Field Championships.
