Cal Poly Track and Field continued its outdoor campaign across three separate meets over the weekend, highlighted by seven top-10 marks in school history and a brand-new school record.

From Thursday to Saturday, a total of 52 Mustangs competed in either the Bryan Clay Invitational, the Mt. SAC Relays or the Beach Invitational.

On Thursday, at the Bryan Clay Invitational, two top-five marks were recorded by the women’s distance squad.

In the women’s 10,000-meter invite, junior Kelli Gaffney posted the third fastest time in school history to place seventh in the heat. With a time of 33:49.78, Gaffney beat her previous personal best by 23 seconds and recorded the fastest women’s 10,000 by a Mustang since 1990.

Redshirt senior Isabel Sanchez also had a historic day in the women’s 3,000 steeplechase. Sanchez moved into the No. 4 slot in school history with a time of 10:33.75.

At the Beach Invitational on Friday, redshirt senior Travis Martin continued his outstanding outdoor season by setting a new school record and placing second in the men’s hammer throw. Martin’s mark of 75.62 meters currently ranks No. 3 in the West Region, No. 4 in the NCAA and No. 20 in the World.

Not only was Martin’s throw the eighth time he has set the Cal Poly school record, but it also surpassed teammate Rory Devaney’s previous record by over a meter set at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Graduate student Grace Proudfoot had a stellar performance during the day at the Mt. SAC Relays. In the women’s high jump, Proudfoot cleared a height of 1.78 meters to take second in the elite B section. The new PR for the Oregon State transfer tied for sixth best in school history and was the highest mark by a Mustang in 11 years.

To round out the day, freshman Tyler Daillak ran the seventh fastest men’s 5,000-meter in school history at Bryan Clay, while sophomore Gracelyn Brown improved her No. 6 mark in the women’s hammer throw at the Beach Invitational.

Saturday was highlighted by a pair of impressive showings at the Mt. SAC Relays.

Sophomore Vincent Atilano flew in the men’s 400-meter hurdles to record a lifetime best of 50.52 seconds and place sixth overall at the meet. The time moved Atilano into the No. 2 slot in school history, the fastest by a Mustang in 48 years, and currently ranks No. 11 in the West Region.

In women’s pole vault, senior Lexi Evans recorded an outdoor season best to place fifth in the event. After earning Second Team All-American honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships just a little over a month ago, Evans’ most recent height of 4.35 meters is tied for No. 10 in the West Region and tied for 16th in Division I.

After recording 17 individual personal bests over the course of three days, Cal Poly will regroup before heading to Santa Barbara to compete in the UCSB Invite on April 24-25.
