Coming off a win on a last-second shot from graduate guard Ashley Hiraki, Cal Poly women’s basketball will look to carry their momentum on the road to take on the UC Davis Aggies.
The Mustangs and the Aggies faced off in the Big West debut earlier this season, with UC Davis taking the victory by six points.
Cal Poly stayed in that game versus the Aggies because of their prowess on the offensive glass. Redshirt sophomore Sierra Lichtie finished that game with nine total rebounds, five of which were offensive rebounds.
In all-time head-to-head games, UC Davis has dominance over the Mustangs, winning 22 of their 30 matchups.
From 2016 to 2023, Cal Poly lost 15 straight games to the Aggies before winning both regular season matchups in the 2023-2024 season.
Senior guard Annika Shah has also been lighting it up for the Mustangs this season. She is first in the Big West in three-point field goal percentage, total made threes, total made field goals and average threes made per game.
Shah’s numbers have her tied for 11th in the nation in made three-pointers and 10th in the nation in three-point field goal percentage. Shah also received her second Big West Player of the Week honor this past week.
Cal Poly is starting to gain some momentum in the Big West after their wins against UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara last week to bring their overall record back to .500.
However, they have a tough matchup in front of them, as UC Davis has just one loss in Big West play.
Shah, Hiraki and the Mustangs will head north and take on the Aggies on Thursday, Jan. 16, with tipoff at 6 p.m.
