After two away games, Cal Poly Women’s Tennis returned home for their second-to-last match to beat UC Riverside in a 7-0 sweep. This was the Mustangs’ first sweep since Feb. 8 vs. Saint Mary’s.

All three doubles pairs dominated at the net to earn the doubles point, including the pairing of Sarah and Jessica MacCallum, sisters who don’t often get paired up. First to finish were Freshman and Senior duo Tia Bonita Jakupovic-Kljako and Kennedy Buntrock

As for singles, the Mustangs started off strong, with multiple lines winning the first three games in a row.

Every player won their first set, and Junior Natalie Lynch took the first singles win of the day. Jessica MacCollum, Alexandra Ozerets, and Buntrock finished up their second sets with wins to bring the score to 5-0. Sarah MacCollum’s second set came close but she pulled through with a 6-4 win, putting the Mustangs just one match away from a sweep.

On court three, Junior Candela Aparisi lost the second set, pushing her into a third set tiebreak. As the rest of the teams watched, Aparisi fought to win the 3rd set 6-3.

Wednesday’s match comes before the Mustangs’ (11-8) final matchup against current No. 1 seed UCSB, who they face on Saturday. Saturday’s outcome will determine whether they will be the No. 1 or No. 2 seed for the Semifinals. The match will be held at the Ronca Tennis Center on Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m.
