The back-to-back Big West Champions have their destination set for the opening round of the NCAA tournament. Cal Poly Baseball will be heading to the Los Angeles Regional hosted by the Big 10 champions UCLA.
The Mustangs (36-22) went 3-1 at the Big West Tournament despite their high powered offense being relatively quiet, only scoring 10 runs over the four games. Their pitching carried them through, with critical starts from Griffin Naess, Carson Turnquist and Corden Pettey combining for 18.2 innings of two run ball.

In last year’s regional in Eugene, Cal Poly went 2-2, dropping both games to Arizona but beating Oregon and future Big West foe Utah Valley.
The Mustangs went to Westwood in 2013 where they went 1-2, beating San Diego before losing to UCLA in a heartbreaker and then falling to San Diego to exit the tournament.
Along with the No. 1 overall seed Bruins (51-6), Cal Poly is joined by Virginia Tech (30-24) and Saint Mary’s (34-25).
The Mustangs are frequent opponents with Saint Mary’s and UCLA, having played the two a combined 92 times, most recently a three game set to open the 2025 season against UCLA. Cal Poly split a four game set against the Gael’s at Baggett Stadium in 2019.
Cal Poly has never played the Hokies of Virginia Tech, but that changes when they open the tournament against them Friday at 5 p.m.
