Cal Poly Baseball racked up the awards as eight Mustangs were awarded All-Big West honors, announced Tuesday by the Big West Conference.
Four Mustangs were named to the All-Big West first team, with three being named to the second team and one as an honorable mention.
Cal Poly’s 23-7 record in the Big West is its best mark ever, and earned them second place in the conference just behind UC Irvine.
Sophomore third baseman Alejandro Garza followed up his Big West Freshman Field Player of the Year award by leading the Big West in hits this season and the team in runs scored, earning first-team honors for the second straight year.
Joining him is the other half of the 2024 Freshman Player of the Year duo, sophomore righty Griffin Naess. Naess was the ace of the Mustang staff, pitching to a 3.65 ERA and 6-2 record to earn a spot on the first team.
Rounding out the first team nominees for Cal Poly are seniors Zach Daudet and Ryan Fenn. Daudet flirted with a .400 average all the way into late April before settling at a .362 clip and finishing with a team high 1.018 OPS. Fenn led the team in stolen bases with 15 and had 22 multi-hit games this season.
On the second team and completing the awards for infield is freshman shortstop Nate Castellon. A strong contender for Big West freshman player of the year, he finished second in the Big West batting title race and flashed the leather in his maiden voyage in the Big West, ranking third in assists.
Junior catcher Jack Collins led the team in homers with 12, including clutch homers against Texas A&M and Oregon State. Collins was also named as a semi-finalist for the Buster Posey award, awarded to the best catcher in college baseball. Former Mustang Ryan Stafford was named as a finalist for the award last season.
Senior lefty Jake Torres cemented himself as a key bullpen piece as the season progressed. Teams have a .198 batting average against him while only walking 14 times. He had almost a month-long stretch from March 29 to April 22 without giving up a single run.
Last but not least, senior centerfield Casey Murray Jr. earned an honorable mention for his breakout 2025 campaign. Murray Jr. has been perfect in centerfield, playing all 53 contests and raised his batting average over 100 points to .298.
