At Cal Poly, students are taking on professional roles behind the scenes of ESPN+ broadcasts.
Through Ride High Productions, students operate cameras, manage graphics, run replay and direct live sports productions for events streamed on ESPN+. The program offers hands-on experience using industry-standard equipment, allowing students to develop technical and production skills in a live broadcast environment.
Students enter the program with a range of experience levels, from complete beginners to those with backgrounds in journalism or media. Over time, they learn different roles within the control room and on the field, gaining a broad understanding of live production workflows.
The program emphasizes learning through experience, giving students opportunities to experiment, make mistakes and improve in real-time production settings.
For many, the experience leads directly to opportunities beyond college. Students have secured internships and full-time positions in the broadcast industry, applying the skills they developed while working on Cal Poly productions.
Ride High Productions continues to recruit students from all majors, providing a pathway into the sports media industry through hands-on training and mentorship.
