Cal Poly Women’s Soccer remain unbeaten in the Bernardo Silva era, finalizing an undefeated nonconference slate for the first time in program history in a 3-3 draw with similarly unbeaten Seattle University.

The Mustangs (2-0-7) set a program record for the most ties in a single season with seven after the match against the Redhawks (4-0-4).

They have also tied the program’s longest unbeaten streak since 2005, having played nine consecutive games without a loss.

Sunday Night Fireworks

Despite manufacturing less corner kicks and drawing less fouls throughout the match, Cal Poly was able to nearly double the efforts of Seattle towards the goal, outshooting the visiting Redhawks 21-11.

Senior forward Jessie Halladay and redshirt-junior midfielder Sophia Minnite were the most relentless of the Mustang band, accounting for over half of the attempts towards the netting and firing 12 total shots altogether.

Halladay tied her collegiate high of shots attempted with eight on the night. Of her eight attempts, Halladay buried a shot into the nylon once, with a strike in the 76th minute. She now leads the Big West in goals scored, points and points per match.

As a unit, the Mustangs applied consistent pressure throughout the match but were unable to capitalize on the offensive opportunities they had created for themselves.

Cal Poly found the back of the net just once within the first fifteen minutes of the match off a corner kick opportunity nodded in by senior midfielder Brennan Cole

They fired 10 more shots within the first 45 minutes of the match with no conversion.

Seattle, on the contrary, found three different ways to respond to the Mustangs’ single message, rallying to score three times within a 10-minute span.

Cal Poly remained silent until the final fifteen minutes of the match. The Mustangs beat the Redhawks’ goalie twice in that span, punctuated by an equalizer from senior midfielder Julia Moore that skidded into the bottom right corner in the waning 15 seconds of the match.

Looking Ahead to Blue-Green

Cal Poly looks to extend the unbeaten streak and open conference play against familiar rivals UC Santa Barbara  in the 14th installment of the Blue-Green rivalry game.

The Mustangs will look to avenge the prior year’s narrow loss on Thursday, Sept. 18th, where the team will take on the Gauchos at Harder Stadium at 7 p.m.
