Cal Poly confirmed that two students have recently fallen from residence hall windows, according to an email sent to Mustang News. The university did not release details about when the incidents occurred, which residence halls were involved or the condition of the students.
“The university is aware of two incidents; however, we do not have any additional details to share at this time,” university spokesperson Keegan Koberl wrote in the email to Mustang News.
He said University Housing staff have reminded residents not to tamper with window screens or safety features and staff are currently conducting housing-wide safety inspections.
These incidents add to a history of similar cases at Cal Poly. In 2009, a student fell from a third-floor window in Sierra Madre Hall and was hospitalized, according to previous Mustang News coverage. In 2017, another student was injured after falling from a second-story window, as reported by The Tribune.
University Housing safety guidelines advise students to keep windows locked and screens securely fastened and to report any damage to housing staff for repair immediately.
Cal Poly declined to provide further information about the recent incidents or the students involved.
This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
