After a breakout sophomore campaign, Cal Poly Baseball third baseman Alejandro Garza was named the preseason Big West Player of the Year by D1 Baseball.
Last season, Garza was 13th in the nation in hits (92) and led the team in total bases on the Mustangs’ run to NCAA regionals.
Over the summer he hit .298 in the Cape Cod League, fourth best mark among qualified hitters.
The Cape Cod League is one of, if not the premier summer collegiate league in the nation. Notable alumni include but certainly are not limited to: 2025 AL MVP Aaron Judge, Buster Posey, Baseball Hall of Fame members Frank Thomas and Todd Helton.
Garza will likely continue to be a mainstay at the hot corner for Cal Poly, while occupying the middle of the lineup as an engine for the offense. The 2025 Big West champions return a good portion of their offense and pitching staff as they look to defend their title.
Cal Poly starts their season in North Carolina Feb. 13, as they take on Campbell for a three game series.
