Comedian Atsuko Okatsuka is coming to the Performing Arts Center Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., as part of “The Big Bowl Tour.” The show is marketed as being for ages 18 and up.

Known for her Hulu comedy standup “Father” and HBO Max standup special “The Intruder,” Okatsuka also voiced Yuri in the movie “Spider Man: Across the Spiderverse,” according to IMDB. She has voiced and acted for other movies and TV shows.

She also hosted a game show, titled “Let’s Go, Atsuko!” which ran as a podcast and live show, according to Apple Podcasts.

Graphic communication senior Alena Thai knows Atsuko Okatsuka from online and through her comedy special. She is excited because she does not get to see many Asian celebrities and artists come to San Luis Obispo.

“I think I’m particularly interested especially because we both share this Asian background, so I’ve seen previous social media content that she does for her comedy show and she does talk often about her family and like  how she grows up and her Asian experience, and so I think I’m just excited to hear if she continues doing that in this show.”

Thai is attending the show with her roommates, who told her about the show.

Mechanical engineering freshman Colin Edwards does not know anything about the comedian or her background but generally finds stand up comedy interesting.

He said the tickets might be out of his price range. Ticket prices range from $31 to $69, according to the PAC website.

Mechanical engineering freshman Spencer Burckhardt said he will look out for comedy shows in the future, because he did not know they had stand up comedy on campus.

“Any type of art on campus is good, especially a known comedian,” Burckhardt said. That’s a cool experience to have on campus.”

Electrical engineering freshman Lia Sanchez likes that Cal Poly organizations, like Cal Poly Arts and ASI, are bringing diverse people to Cal Poly and expanding what the student body can watch.

“Personally, I’m not super familiar with this comedian, but I think it’s a great opportunity for students to come out and see a fun show,” she said.

Tickets can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center website.
