Fruits of their labor

Tasting Cal Poly’s fruits just got easier with the release of three student-produced wines.

The 2006 vintage pinot noir, chardonnay and the Mustang Red, a red blend of zinfandel and syrah, were grown on campus at Trestle Vineyard by a select number of enology (the study of wine-making) students.

Thanks for supporting Prop 11 I am proud of all my fellow Poly students for breaking voting records and opting to vote for what they believe in. Most of you probably showed up to vote primarily for president and Prop 8, both of which were the most controversial of the election.

Respect both sides of political debate instead of name-calling

Usually, I really like reading Ian Nachreiner’s column every week because it allows me to see a different perspective on politics than what I was raised with. In fact, his words have reformed some of my opinions. But his column this past Thursday struck a chord with me because it seemed more like an uncontrolled, divisive emotional outburst rather than his usually intelligent commentary.

Cal Poly looks to build on late-season surge

The Cal Poly women’s basketball team was on the verge of a significant breakthrough last season when its surprising run through the Big West Conference Tournament was stopped by eventual champion UC Santa Barbara.

While the Mustangs got a brief taste of success toward the end of the year, Cal Poly head coach Faith Mimnaugh says they’re ready for the full experience.

For months, DJs from radio station KCPR have been running around trying to collect donations from local businesses. Now, they’re trying even harder to get rid of them.

KCPR, Cal Poly’s “non-profit, volunteer-run” radio station is currently in the midst of their annual fundraising auction while continuing to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the station, which started as a senior project in 1968.

Random Abiladeze: Politics in poetry

Alcohol, women and money are often themes of the hip-hop scene the media portrays. Rapper and poet Random Abiladeze sometimes addresses these topics, but from a different perspective than the norm. He uses politically, socially and spiritually charged poetry to silence the negative connotations.
