After playing two overtimes tied at one apiece with Cal State Fullerton, the Cal Poly women’s soccer team was eliminated from the Big West Conference Tournament on penalty kicks Thursday night in Fullerton.
Spoiler alert: Elise Krieghoff is good. She’s leading the nation in goals. With 21 this season, she broke the Cal Poly all-time single-season school record — a record that had been untouched for 21 years.
“The soccer rivalry between us and Santa Barbara is what Duke and North Carolina are to men’s basketball,” Cal Poly Athletics Director Don Oberhelman said in a press conference leading up to the game. “It’s the best soccer rivalry in the United States.”
Coming off two straight losses in which the Cal Poly football team scored 27 combined points, head coach Tim Walsh said his team would need to regain its identity on offense with the run game entering the week.

The event was kicked off by presenting the class of eight seniors — Cristina Farrington, Braelyn Fetsch, Brittainy Gebo, Kacey Held, Amanda Turini, Haley Walker, Jordyn Zander and Andrea Zimkowski — who were welcomed by their family and friends.
