Brittany Blalock and Steffi Wong, both sophomores from the Cal Poly women’s tennis team, will compete as a doubles tandem at the NCAA Championships in late May, the NCAA announced Wednesday.

Their trip to the championships, which will be held May 21 through May 26 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla., marks the first ever by a Mustangs individual or doubles team.

“They have been very consistent all year, from the All-American Tournament in September to the end of the season,” Mustangs head coach Hugh Bream said in a news release. “It’s a great achievement for them and for the program.”

Tuesday, the duo was named to the All-Big West Conference First Team following a 14-7 dual campaign.

Blalock and Wong, ranked 46th in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, automatically qualified for the 32-team championships by virtue of being ranked in the top 60.

The twosome went 2-3 this season against other teams that were selected.
