Former Cal Poly pitcher Bryan Woo was announced on July 6 as a representative for the American League in the 2025 All-Star Game.

It’s the first representation for the Mustangs at the Midsummer Classic since Mitch Haniger was named an All-Star in 2018, also for the Seattle Mariners.

Despite a 6.49 ERA and a 4-7 record during his time in San Luis Obispo, Woo has dominated at the pro level, compiling a 3.21 ERA with a 21-12 mark since his debut in 2023.

This season Woo has been the ace of the Mariners pitching rotation, placing in the top ten of qualified AL pitchers in both walks and hits per nine innings, along with wins (8) and ERA (2.75).

Woo and reigning Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal are the only pitchers this season to have a sub-3.00 ERA, 100 strikeouts and fewer than 20 walks.

He is the sixth Mustang to be named an All-Star, joining fellow one-time members Kevin Correia, Mike Krukow, Thornton Lee and Haniger. MLB Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith was named to 15 All-Star games across his 19 year career.

In his final start before the break on Thursday Woo made headlines, taking a no-hitter into the eighth inning against the New York Yankees.

Woo and the Mariners currently sit in the third wildcard spot in the American League, trailing the AL West leading Houston Astros by 7 games.

Next week Woo will be headed to Atlanta, where the All-Star game is set for Truist Park on July 15.
