Cal Poly swimming alum Taylor Spivey helped Team USA take home silver in the triathlon mixed-team relay at the 2024 Olympics on Monday.

The 33-year-old became the fourth former Mustang to win an Olympic medal, joining Karen Kraft, Gina Miles and Stephanie Brown Trafton.

Spivey graduated from Cal Poly in 2014 and swam for the Mustangs from 2009-14.

The silver-winning Team USA relay team consisted of Spivey, Seth Rider, Morgan Pearson and Taylor Knibb who posted a time of 1 hour, 25 minutes and 40 seconds.

It came down to a photo finish as Team USA was just edged out by 1/100th of a second by Germany who posted a time of 1 hour, 25 minutes and 39 seconds.

After review, it was determined the U.S. took home the silver medal as they crossed the finish line just before Great Britain, which matched Team USA’s finishing time.

“It feels so incredible,” Spivey said after the event. “To walk away with the silver medal is really special.”

Each athlete per team, which consists of two men and two women, completed a 300-meter swim, a 7-kilometer bike ride and a 1.8-kilometer run.

Spivey, the No. 4 ranked women’s World Triathlete, made her Olympic debut just five days ago in the women’s triathlon placing 10th.

In her final year as a Mustang, Spivey took home the 2014 USA Triathlon Women’s Collegiate National Championship.
