Cal Poly Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is hosting a Zoom decompression session from 4:10 to 4:40 p.m. to support those experiencing Election Day stress, according to Cal Poly Now.

The session will offer group mindfulness and self-compassion practices, according to Sarah Colwell, session host and CAPS clinical psychologist.

A second event will be held Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at the yakʔitʸutʸu Community Center, offering refreshments, relaxing activities and one-on-one counseling sessions, according to Cal Poly Now

CAPS counselors Amber Clemmons-Trigueros and Allison Parker will lead Thursday’s session.

CAPS created these events to support students who share stressors related to the future and interpersonal conflicts from election discussions, Colwell said.

“With so much stress and feeling pressured to stay constantly informed, many people are finding it difficult to take breaks, to be present with what they’re feeling, or to nurture themselves,” Colwell said.

Colwell hopes students leave the session with a plan of how to be compassionate with themselves in the coming days.
