Cal Poly Women’s Soccer announced on Monday that they signed former Sacramento State midfielder Madelyn Dougherty.

Dougherty was a captain of a Hornets squad that made the NCAA tournament, winning the Big Sky postseason tournament. She had two goals and two assists during the 2024 season.

The Kula, Hawai’i native has also proven to be an iron horse as she’s started in every single match throughout her three seasons at Sacramento State.

Most recently, Dougherty was named as an All-Big Sky Conference Honorable Mention in 2024.

The Mustangs lost 12 players to graduation this past offseason, after boasting one of the largest rosters in all of Division I. Head Coach Alex Crozier also retired at season’s end, as the only coach in the team’s Division I history.

In Crozier’s final season, the team posted an overall record of 5-11-3 and a Big West record of 3-6-1, finishing ninth in the conference.

It was a big step back after the team finished in third place in the conference in 2023 and first in 2022.

Dougherty will join first-year head coach Bernardo Silva, who was Sacramento State’s assistant during her freshman year, as Cal Poly Women’s Soccer heads into a new era.
