Cal Poly Women’s Tennis played two matches at San Jose State. The first was against the home Spartans on Friday, Feb. 9, where the Mustangs fell 4-3. However, the team routed the University of San Francisco the following day by a 6-1 score.

Hitting the road after grabbing their third straight victory over UC Davis, Cal Poly took a trip to San Jose to take on the San Jose State Spartans (3-0) on Saturday, Feb. 9.
The Mustangs and Spartans fought to the last match, eventually resulting in a San Jose State victory, handing Cal Poly their first defeat of the new season.
San Jose took the early doubles point, winning two out of three matches.
Graduate student Melissa LaMette and junior Romane Mosse are still hanging onto their undefeated streak in doubles, now pushing their record to 3-0 this year after winning 6-2 at line two.
The Mustangs were quickly down 0-2 before sophomore Sasha Ozerets provided a strong answer at line No. 5 winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
Ozerets has only lost one set this whole season and is extending her overall undefeated singles streak to 4-0 thus far.
Cal Poly would get some more singles help after Sophomore Kennedy Buntrock evened the match at 2-2 after securing a 6-3, 7-5 win at the third line.
Buntrock has a streak-building as well. The surging sophomore is also 4-0 on the season, and her victory at line No. 3 was the highest she has played in her college career.
Junior Peyton Dunkle pulled out a gritty three-set victory to tie up the match at 3-3 for Cal Poly.
Peyton is undefeated in the 2023-2024 campaign been dialed in this year after her 4-0 start.
Coming into the last and deciding match, it all came down to the Jacksonville State transfer and Paris native Romane Mosse.
After going down a set 4-6, Mosse was gaining some momentum in the second set with all her teammates cheering her on.
Mosse narrowly fell in the second 5-7, giving the Spartans a 4-3 victory over the Mustangs.
Cal Poly will look to bounce back quickly on Saturday against the University of San Francisco Dons, who are 2-3 on the year.

The Mustangs (4-1,1-0 Big West) were able to rebound after a narrow loss against San Jose State the day prior.
The neutral-site victory over the Dons (2-4) marks the fourth time this season the women have won by a score of 6-1.
The Mustangs kicked off the match by securing the doubles point with victories from their No. 2 and No. 3 duos.
At No. 2, graduate student Melissa LaMette and junior Romane Mosse won by a score of 6-1. They are now 4-0 as a pairing this season. Next up, the sophomore duo of Kennedy Buntrock and Alexander Ozerets secured the 1-0 lead with a 6-3 win at the No. 3 spot.
At the No. 1, fifth-year Delanie Dunkle and third-year Peyton Dunkle went unfinished.
Securing her first singles win of the season, junior Eliza Bates dominated at the No. 6 spot by a 6-3, 6-1 victory. That put the Mustangs up 2-0.
At the No. 4 spot, Ozerets improved to 5-0 in singles this season as she handled her opponent with a straight-set victory.
Mosse then put the Mustangs up 4-0, clinching Saturday’s dual victory. At the No. 5, she also won with a straight-set victory.
Even with the match won, No. 1 Delanie and No. 2 Peyton won two thrilling 10-point tiebreakers in the third set of their singles. Peyton is 5-0 on the season in dual singles matches.
The Dons got their lone point of the day as Buntrock suffered her first loss of the season at the No. 3 spot.
On the year, the women are dominating in dual singles matches with a 23-7 record.
The road trip continues for the Mustangs as they travel to Arizona to face Grand Canyon on Feb. 17 and No. 24 Arizona State on Feb. 18.
