Three-time NCAA wrestling qualifier Chance Lamer announced on Thursday that he has transferred to the University of Nebraska, per his Instagram

Lamer is coming off a 15-4 season in the 149-pound weight class for the Mustangs. He went 1-2 as the No. 14 seed in the NCAA Championships in Philadelphia.

Lamer will likely slide into the same weight class for Nebraska, as 2025 National Champion Ridge Lovett (149 pounds) will be graduating.

The Cornhuskers are coming off their best year at the NCAA Championships in program history, where they finished as a team runner-up, had two individual national champions and garnered eight All-Americans.

Lamer has been a rock for the Mustang coaching staff since transferring from the University of Michigan, consistently holding a top ten ranking in his weight class throughout both his seasons as a Mustang.

He transferred from Michigan after two years, where he compiled a 32-11 overall record and qualified for the 2023 NCAA Championships as a redshirt freshman.

During Chance’s first year as a Mustang, he earned himself a 19-6 record, placed second at the Pac-12 Championships and advanced to the Round of 12 at the 2024 NCAA Championships.

The loss of Chance will leave a huge hole in the middle of the lineup for Head Coach Jon Sioredas.

One of the main reasons Lamer transferred to Cal Poly was to wrestle with his brothers, Brawley Lamer, graduate student Legend Lamer and sophomore Daschle Lamer

This past season, Chance, Legend and Daschle were all in the lineup together, with Daschle wrestling as a redshirt freshman.

Now, the Mustangs will be losing two of the Lamer brothers, as Legend’s career has come to a close.

Sioredas and the rest of the coaching staff will have their work cut out for them ahead of the 2025-26 season to replicate the production left by the departure of the two Lamer brothers.
