The California Mid-State Fair is a staple for San Luis Obispo County residents — and award-winning country singer and San Luis Obispo native, Dasha, is no exception.

“Growing up, Mid-State Fair, every summer. Highlight. Oh my god,” Dasha said.

Dasha is a country artist who grew up in San Luis Obispo and is best known for her hit song “Austin.” She will take the Chumash Grandstand Arena stage opening for Old Dominion on July 15 at the California Mid-State Fair.

In fact, Dasha attended an Old Dominion concert at the Mid-State Fair, making her opening performance a full-circle moment in her career.

“I’m geeking about it honestly,” Dasha said. “I’m really stoked.”

Love for Line Dancing

In 2023, Dasha released her smash-hit “Austin” which has over a billion streams and reached as high as No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 in August of 2024.

With Dasha’s love for line dancing, she decided that “Austin” needed a line dance to accompany it. The heel-switching, grapevine-filled dance was choreographed by Dasha herself. She posted it on TikTok in February 2024 and the video reached over a million views within 24 hours, jumpstarting Dasha’s career.

Not only does Dasha have San Luis Obispo county roots, but so does her love for line dancing.

“Jimmy’s Watering Hole is actually where the whole line dancing lore of my life started,” Dasha said. “You’d go to Jimmy’s Watering Hole after a concert or late night at the fair before your parents picked you up and that’s where you’d line dance.”

Jimmy’s Watering Hole is an outdoor bar at the California Mid-State Fair where you will find fair attendees dancing to all eras of country music with a drink in hand. Dasha is looking forward to bringing her own twist to the bar after her performance.

“We’re going to try and throw a little Dashville party after I play so look out at Jimmy’s Watering Hole,” Dasha said.

The name “Dashville” describes the singer’s own world revolving around her craft including performances and merchandise. Dasha’s first headlining tour was titled “Dashville, USA” and she even turned Stagecoach into Dashville during her performance this year. Different pieces of “Dashville” merchandise can be found on her website allowing fans to fully embrace Dasha’s world.

Hometown Roots

Dasha began her entertainment career at the young age of 5 years old. Dasha quickly fell in love with the art of entertainment after she joined musical theater at five years old performing “Bye Bye Birdie” at Bellevue-Santa Fe Charter School. Through it all, the San Luis Obispo community always encouraged her to pursue her passions.

“Whenever I said, ‘oh I want to be a singer’ or ‘oh I want to write songs,’ … people were like delusional with me growing up,” Dasha said. “They were like ‘f— yeah you can, let’s do it girl.’”

Her Mid-State Fair performance will not be the first time she performs in front of her hometown crowd since her success.

In late 2024, Dasha played a sold-out show at SLO Brew Rock and turned BooBoo Records into her own stage performing a miniature set.

“SLO is just like a magical place, that’s what I tell everyone” Dasha said. “It’s like half redneck half surfer.”

While she has previously taken her hometown stage, this performance is different.

“It’s such a bucket list thing for me to be playing there,” Dasha said.

Tickets to attend Dasha and Old Dominion’s performance on July 15 are currently on sale and can be found on Ticketmaster.
