Downtown Centre Cinemas has been a frequent gathering place in San Luis Obispo since the Sanborn family first opened it 30 years ago, and has remained a staple for Cal Poly students; they have had a plethora of campus and community involvement through partnerships with the Special Olympics, various fraternities and sororities, WOW week and the SLO film festivals.

Downtown Centre Cinemas has hired many types of students and upheld a welcoming presence to all! To all the avid movie goers, you are just in luck because Downtown Centre Cinemas 7 (DCC7) is here to stay. The landlord and Sanborn family have agreed to renew the lease of the theatre for another 10 to 20 years, averting the potential closure of the cinema at the end of this year.

With Downtown Cinemas new lease, they plan on remodeling the space to further elevate the movie experience! The Sanborn family has continually pushed this renovation for the past five years in order to enhance the space and not neglect the theatre; however, the landlord did not approve it until this year.

The new lease agreement includes a $2 million investment for renovations: such as new recliner seating, Dolby Atmos immersive sound and improved food and beverage services. The 2025 Renovation will be completed in phases to allow the theater to remain open. The DCC7 will also offer discounted parking to encourage support throughout the project. There will be half-priced parking in the Marsh St. structure with a purchase at the cinema. Simply pay for parking at the theatre alongside your movie ticket and instead of paying at the garage on your way out, use the validated parking stub to exit the lot on your way out. All day parking is offered at a maximum of $4 with a purchase at the cinema. The Sunday College Night and Farmer’s Market ticket prices will persist throughout the renovation project as well. Head to their website at themovieexperience.com for more information!

The DCC7 is located at 888 Marsh St. tucked away near the Jamba Juice and Barnes and Nobles. Beyond their diverse selection of movies, DCC7 also offers low prices. Adult Matinee prices are only $10 and evenings are $12. Discount Tuesdays set price is $6 all day and tickets are only $9 every Farmer’s Market day. Sundays are College Night where students’ tickets are $10 after 7:30 p.m. with a student ID.
