The living conditions in Ventura Juvenile detention give us a new definition of criminal – I’m sure there are monsters there, as well as good kids who made a mistake they’d never repeat, and I’m sure the monsters who are there keepers will create many more.
We’re also the only industrialized nation with a juvenile death penalty.
We have a criminal justice system that creates criminals. It’s a good policy for job security in the criminal justice system at the expense of the rest of society.

Death sentences for those under the age of 18 when they committed their crimes were deemed unconstitutional, on Eighth Amendment grounds, by the High Court in Roper v. Simmons, decided in 2005.
