Cal Poly Track and Field competed at the West Coast Relays, hosted by Fresno State, over the weekend. Over 40 athletes participated in the meet.

The Cal Poly women shined, highlighted by senior Cadence Roy-Williams. Roy-Williams participated in three events at the meet, impressing in all of them.

In the women’s long jump, Roy-Williams leaped a personal best mark of 19 feet, 5.5 inches, which put her at No. 10 in the event in program history and third place in the event.

Then, the Turlock, Calif. native set a PR in the women’s 100-meter (12.27 seconds) before running the third leg in Cal Poly’s 4×400 relay team, which earned second place with a season-best time of 3:50.45.

Freshman Avery Adelman and sophomores Kalia Estes and Elianah DeMange ran the other three legs on the relay.

Throwing Strong

Cal Poly’s throwing team also put on some outstanding performances over the meet.

The Mustangs competed in the hammer throw on the opening day of the meet, where junior Rory Devaney took first with a toss of 216 feet, 11 inches. Devaney is the current school record holder in the event and is the owner of the ninth-best throw this season (223-0).

Devaney also took third in the discus (174-0) to cap off the meet.

Senior Anna Grexton improved her fourth-best mark in school history in the event, setting a new personal best toss of 174 feet, 1 inch to place sixth, while graduate student Corban Payne took home second in the shot put with a throw of 58 feet, 10 inches.

Cal Poly will be in action again at the Stanford Invitational and the Mike Fanelli Track Classic from April 4-5.
