San Luis Obispo County beaches will be placed under a high surf advisory watch from 3 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2 to 3 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4. due to large, breaking waves and rip currents, according to The National Weather Service.
Dangerous eight- to 12-foot waves and rip currents pose increased risks for ocean drowning and injury.
Residents and visitors are advised to stay completely out of the water, avoiding swimming, surfing and walking close to the break. Larger breaking waves can also wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near the shore.
Visitors are advised to stay off the rocks and remain close to occupied lifeguard towers, as rock jetties are also dangerous in these conditions.
Additionally, the National Weather Service expects possible minor tidal overflows from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Minor overflows can cause stormwater backups and road closures, according to The National Ocean Service.
