The San Luis Obispo County general election results were finalized this afternoon. With an overall voter turnout of 84%, the San Luis Obispo County Clerk-Recorder processed 153,432 ballots.
More than 92% of ballots received were mail-in, totaling over 141,000, while just 12,000 ballots were cast in person on Election Day.
With county results finalized, the California Secretary of State will certify results on Dec. 13.
Erica A. Stewart reelected as city mayor
Erica A. Stewart was reelected as the San Luis Obispo city mayor, securing 84% of votes.
Stewart will serve her second term as mayor after being appointed in 2021, following the resignation of former Mayor Heidi Harmon.
Stewart is the city’s first Black mayor, as well as a Cal Poly alumna and lecturer in the communication studies department. She supports affordable housing and expanding public transportation. Stewart said she is also a strong advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
Stewart won against Cal Poly alumnus Donald Hedrick, who garnered 15% of the vote.
Jan Marx and Michael Boswell elected to San Luis Obispo City Council
Incumbent Jan Marx and Cal Poly Professor Michael Boswell were elected to the San Luis Obispo City Council.
Marx, the former mayor of San Luis Obispo, won nearly 37% of the vote. Boswell received 34% of the vote.
Marx has been a long time advocate for climate action in San Luis Obispo. Renter safety and affordable housing are also key priorities of hers.

As Cal Poly’s city and regional planning department chair and professor, Boswell supports a walkable downtown area, improving city parks and affordable housing for all.
“Thank you to everyone who supported me,” Boswell stated on his website. “I look forward to serving the community as a member of the city council. We can accomplish much when we work together.”

Marx and Boswell won against John Drake, who received 18% of the vote, and Felicia Lewis, who received 10% of the vote.
