Two sidewalks are closed near the North Mountain dorms and the new student success center which is under construction. These sidewalks will be closed until the opening of the student success center, which is projected to open around October 2027, according to Project Manager John Sandman.

The closed sidewalks run along N. Perimeter Road and on Village Drive between N. Perimeter Road and Truckee Road. The closures are for the safety of the pedestrians during construction activities.

There will be a temporary crosswalk leading to the Fisher Building located on the east side of Village Drive and  N. Perimeter Road, according to Sandman. The sidewalk to the east of Village Drive, closest to the North Mountain dorms, will remain open for pedestrians.

Math senior Anjali Pamnani visits Building Fifteen to study, and when she tries to walk home, she now has to cross the street two more times than she usually does.

“Which can be a little tricky considering visibility isn’t the best with all of the construction going on,” Pamnani said.

Pamnani said this closure does not cause too much time to her commute and that it is super inconvenient, but it adds a little time. She said the construction noise is pretty loud when she studies in Building 15.

Biology senior Breanna Burke is not affected by the construction because she lives off campus, but feels for people who are impacted.

“I know for some people, it could be harmful or just kind of a burden on them when they are walking to wherever they need to go,” Burke said. “I know for some people, it really interferes with their everyday routes.”

Computer science junior Connor Brem has been affected by the sidewalk closure because he has to go through the middle of campus instead of going around campus.

“Although that kind of makes it a little bit of a faster commute, although sometimes depending on the building that I’m going towards, sometimes it makes it a longer commute,” Brem said.
