Cal Poly’s Morning on the Green drew nearly 11,000 students to campus for an early morning concert celebrating St. Patrick’s Day through live music and community.
The annual event featured house music, a growing subgenre of electronic dance music, as DJs performed for crowds beginning before sunrise. Student DJs opened the show, followed by nationally recognized performers who headlined the event.
Morning on the Green reflects a broader interest in music festivals among students, with events like Shabang and Coachella influencing campus music culture. Organizers selected house music artists this year in response to its increasing popularity.
The event created a space for students to gather, dance and celebrate with friends in a controlled, on-campus environment. While some students expressed mixed reactions to the music selection, many welcomed the opportunity to attend a large-scale concert without leaving campus.
With thousands in attendance and high-energy performances throughout the morning, the event highlighted the role of live music in bringing together the Cal Poly community.
