Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) Board of Directors held its second meeting of the quarter last night. The meetings are held every other week in the University Union (UU), room 220.

ASI president Kiyana Tabrizi reported:

• Working on ways to educate all students on campus about the upcoming Student Success Fees vote.

Chair of the UU Advisory Board (UUAB) Karen Mesrobian reported: 

• ASI is moving forward with trying to install two Brita Hydration Stations in the UU. Pricing and installation costs have been estimated.

• UUAB would like to install a Redbox movie rental machine in the UU but is having problems contacting the company. UUAB is looking at possibilities of installing other movie rental boxes in the UU.

• UUAB is looking into the UU master plan of remodeling the second floor of the UU building.

• Recreation Center classes started Monday, with almost every class full, the Recreation Center is looking at possibilities of opening more classes and times to meet high demands.

• HandKey access to the Recreation Center will be required starting Feb. 1 for all members.

• Recreation Center memberships for faculty and alumni are now on sale.

ASI executive director Rick Johnson reported:

• Mid-year budget update will be available soon.

• The pool area and volleyball courts at the Recreation Center are up for final inspection this week. If the areas pass inspection, the volleyball courts, barbecue areas and pool will open  this Friday.

• In order to use the barbecues, reservations must be made at the front desk of the Recreation Center.

• The new volleyball court at the Recreation Center will be open whenever the gym is. The pool will be open when weather permits and only during daytime.

• Poly Escapes will be closing their current location in the UU on Mar. 2. It will re-open at their new location in the Recreation Center on the first day of  spring quarter.

• Poly Escapes new location at the Recreation Center will include a large “Climbing Park” next to the building.

• Towel services at the Recreation Center will be available to all members soon.

Preston Allen, serving as the university president’s representative reported:

• The Recreation Center was very well received by the Cal Poly community last week.

• Last week’s career fair brought more than 120 employers, 2700 attendees and created 673 job interviews.

• More marketing for second-year students to live in Poly Canyon Village will begin in the future.

Academic Senate representative James LoCascio reported: 

• There is a possibility of tuition to increase in the future due to more state budgetary issues for higher education.

Cal Poly Corporation representative Mike Thornton reported:

• The new Subway sandwich shop on campus is under construction and is projected to open by the end of March.

• El Corral Bookstore is in the process of re-branding their company, including a new name, new logo and new look to both the campus and downtown locations.

ASI club funding liaisons Derek Majewski and Eric Freeman reported:

• Club funding is out of money and the updated spending report will be available for review next week.
