She has played for the Republic of Ireland National basketball team since age 13, captained the national team at the U-16, U-18 and U-20 levels and received Basketball Ireland’s National Under-20 Player of the Year award two seasons in a row (2004-2005 and 2005-2006).

Santiago guides Cal Poly past Bakersfield
Led by a career-high 29 points from sophomore forward Kristina Santiago, the Cal Poly women’s basketball team defeated Cal State Bakersfield 76-67 at the Icardo Center.
The Mustangs (12-7) were without the services of junior guard Tamara Wells who was out with a groin injury.

All shapes and sizes: New club promotes body acceptance
After suffering from an eating disorder at the end of her freshman year of college, Cal Poly communications junior Jamie Engelhardt decided to to start a club to help prevent others from going through the same thing.
Engelhardt took a year off so she could fully recover from anorexia nervosa and since returning to school has been in the process of forming the Coalition for Health, Wellness and Body Appreciation club.

Man accused of hitting guards remains in jail
The man accused of hitting two security guards with his truck early Sunday morning remains in San Luis Obispo county jail as he awaits word of what will happen next.
Police arrested the 19-year-old man after he reportedly hit two security guards with his truck at the Mustang Village student housing complex before abandoning it nearby.

Float wins top parade award
The votes poured in and Cal Poly emerged the winner at the 120th Annual Tournament of Roses Parade. Capturing 3,219 out of 10,618 votes, the “Seaside Amusement” float created by the Cal Poly universities of San Luis Obispo and Pomona won the inaugural Viewer’s Choice Award.

Cal Poly alumnus dies over winter break
A recent Cal Poly graduate was found dead in Hawaii over winter break.
Former chemistry student Clay Carlson, 25, was visiting family in Kauai and was found in Anini Stream at the bottom of a 10-foot waterfall on New Year’s Eve, the Honolulu Star-Bulletin reported Tuesday.
