The California State Legislature and the California State University system have let us down.
Since 2000, our student fees have doubled. What that means for those of you who are on the eight-year plan is that you are paying for three college educations with little to no help from Uncle Sam.

Here’s what we do know: at “the party,” there was a confederate flag, a beer pong table with a painted confederate flag and a noose. There is much speculation over the signs, but we have heard reports of both versions (“no Obama, no liberals” and “no ni–ers, no fa–ots, no hippies”).
Academic environment should be accepting of all
We, the members of the philosophy department, abhor and condemn the recent alleged racism and acts of anti-homosexuality at the Crops House. We believe that such acts belittle, offend and strike fear in valued members of the Cal Poly community for no good reason.

This voter guide not only speaks about political candidates vying for office, it also addresses the 12 very important propositions – statements that (if passed) will eventually become law.
Activism, civic engagement, grassroots efforts, democracy. What do these words mean to you? With Nov. 4 just around the corner, there is no better time than today to open that voter guide and research the issues. I assure you that there is no greater feeling than that of being politically informed! Regardless of your extreme political interests (or lack thereof), voting is a vital part of the democratic process.
This past Friday night I spent four hours conducting a ride-along with the San Luis Obispo Police Department. From 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., Sergeant Sean Gillham and I patrolled both the residential neighborhoods south of campus and the downtown area. I had no idea what we would encounter and found out that there really is nothing like experiencing the late-night patrol first-hand.
What’s in a beginning? Every year thousands of students walk into their first year of college at Cal Poly, wide-eyed and excited for the next chapter in their lives to begin. As ASI President, I am honored to welcome each of you, new and returning, to a new year.
