A night of insanity with Fishbone

Legendary alternative rock band Fishbone will play at Downtown Brewing Co. tonight, one of five shows the band will play in the United States before beginning their European tour in France April 5.

“It’s been awhile since we’ve been (in San Luis Obispo), but we have some good memories of playing there and I’ve been to some good parties in San Luis Obispo,” said John Norwood Jones, bassist and founding member of Fishbone.

PETA speaker encourages activism

Dan Mathews is known for his wardrobe. He has been photographed around the world dressed as a carrot, a priest and a cow, but early Saturday morning in Chumash Auditorium, he wore just jeans and a Change the Status Quo T-shirt.

The 43-year-old author and senior vice president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) was the keynote speaker for the sixth annual Change the Status Quo Conference: A Student’s Role in Shaping Society.

Take a ride with Penguins on wheels

Penguins might not be the first thing that come to mind when you think of motorcycles, but back in 1947, the animal was the perfect mascot for the newly-formed Cal Poly motorcycle club.

“Back then, guys wore black leather jackets with white T-shirts underneath when they were riding and when the jackets were opened people thought they looked like penguins,” said David Berry, The Penguins Motorcycle Club vice president.
