Kick back for some mellow jams and put on your dancing shoes for a birthday celebration for one of reggae’s legends. Downtown Brewing Co. will be hosting its third-annual Bob Marley Birthday Bash Friday night, led by reggae musicians and enthusiasts Resination, Native Elements and the Kicks.

She smiles and people catch the wonderful disease and smile back. She laughs and the whole world lights up. Whether or not she’s aware of her positive impact on people, Cal Poly agricultural business senior and recording artist Hayley Maynard is loving life.

Cal Poly and the Central Coast will see its first-ever Science Café in the Robert E. Kennedy Library this Wednesday afternoon.

Several of these discussion cafés have already sprung up in coffee houses, bars and other libraries around the Bay Area, Los Angeles and the rest of the country, but none in the Central Coast until now.

It isn’t very often when one finds an art exhibit that replace watercolors and sculptures with iMac computer monitors, Saks Fifth Avenue shopping bags and personal quotes made from powdered sugar. This rare occasion has come to Cal Poly in the form of an artist named Marian Bantjes.

Artist and slam poet Gina Loring graced many of those gathered in Chumash Auditorium with her smooth, soulful presence at Another Type of Groove Wednesday night.

Another Type of Groove is a free monthly event that functions as an open forum for anyone who desires to share their poetry, spoken word talents and minds with the rest of the very supportive, open-minded community.

With heavy academic demands, how is it possible for a full-time college student to make time to fulfill these buried creative passions? The answer lies within the ASI Craft Center.
