Orfalea College of Business Dean Dave Christy will be leaving Cal Poly for Baruch College in New York City this summer, where he will be serving as the provost and senior vice president of student affairs, according to a Cal Poly press release.
Christy, who has worked at Cal Poly since 2004, will act as the chief academic officer at Baruch, and will oversee operations at all of the university’s colleges, including the Zicklin School of Business, which is recognized as the largest collegiate business school in the nation.
An interim director of the Orfalea College will be announced in the coming months while the college begins looking for Christy’s replacement.

It’s beyond humorous to read the press release by Cal Poly’s PR department regarding Dean Christy’s departure.
…Christy was committed to connecting Cal Poly with the San Luis Obispo community. The Orfalea College was a member of the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce. Christy serves on the Economic Vitality Corporation board, the Central Coast Economic Forecast Project, and the Cancer Support Community of the Central Coast…
Committed to connecting Cal Poly with San Luis Obispo?!?!? Are they kidding? That’s a part of his legacy worth sharing?
If Dean Christy wanted to elevate Cal Poly’s Orfalea College of Business and truly help students and graduates, he should have been working diligently to connect the University to business leaders and corporations in Silicon Valley, Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Diego and worldwide.
He should have also been actively focused on preparing students to attend top graduate schools. This would allow them access to future executive positions not usually available to grads with BS degrees.
Wow, the Orfalea College of Business was a member of the SLO Chamber of Commerce!! Now that’s a significant accomplishment.
LOL!!
