In preparation of the Cal Poly baseball team’s three-game series against Cal State Fullerton this weekend, two sections of bleachers, each with 369 seats, were added at Baggett Stadium to boost its capacity. The new stands were added next to the current bleachers, farther along the first and third baselines.

The expanded stands will stay in place through the final home series vs. UC Irvine (May 9-11) and for any potential postseason NCAA regionals. Cal Poly will submit a bid to host a regional that would take place from May 30 to June 2.

The added seats bring the stadium’s total capacity to 2,472. The Mustangs’ most recent home series — against UC Santa Barbara from April 4-6 — drew 6,749 fans, the second largest turnout for a single series.

Cal Poly’s Sunday game against the Gauchos drew a season-high (fourth all-time) 2,489 spectators, despite a smaller official capacity.

As stated in an email sent out to students on behalf of the University Police Department earlier this week, capacity attendance is expected once again. Those driving to the game are asked to plan their routes to the ballpark accordingly.

Cal Poly is ranked No. 3 in four of the five major polls, while Cal State Fullerton is ranked No. 19.

First pitch for the Thursday and Friday games is set for 6 p.m., and 1 p.m. on Saturday. No game will be played Sunday because of the Easter holiday.
