Out of 39 teams racing at the NCAA West Regionals at Colfax Golf Course, Cal Poly Cross Country made it their second consecutive year claiming a top-10 spot for both teams.

The men and women secured eighth place on Friday morning, the same result they got last year.

Junior Tatiana Cornejo made history, claiming All-Region honors with a 25th-place finish in the 6K (20:14.6) and becoming Cal Poly’s first multiple-time All-West region honoree since 2015-2016.

The eighth-place team finish marks the third-highest placement for the women’s squad in program history.

On the men’s side, graduate student Davis Bove ran his final race as a Mustang, leading the team with a 36th-place finish in the 10K (29:55.0). Now out of eligibility for cross country & track and field, Bove’s decorated collegiate career as both a Louisiana State University Tiger and a Mustang comes to an end.

For the men, it’s their best result at the NCAA West Regional since 2013.

No runners on either side qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships, as they would have had to have been one of the four-highest individual runners not on an at-large or already qualifying team. Cornejo had the only shot, as you have to be inside the top 25.

On the women’s side, senior Schuyler Gooley followed Cornejo with a 30th-place finish. Barring a fifth-year, Gooley will conclude her career as a Mustang with a stellar season, winning the Big West individual title before regionals.

Senior Hana Catsimanes crossed the line third for the Mustangs, in 54th place. After that, it was sophomore Sydney Sundgren (63rd), redshirt sophomore Sophia Nordenholz (71st), sophomore Kelli Gaffney (92nd) and junior Riley Cash (107th) rounding out the seven entered runners.

For the men, senior Anthony Guerra and redshirt freshman Rory Catsimanes crossed the finish line right next to each other, in 44th and 45th place.

Redshirt juniors Michael Chambers (55th), senior Colton Swinth (58th) and redshirt junior Spencer Pickren (81st) rounded out the runners for Cal Poly.
