The Cal Poly Downtown Store has relocated to a new, larger space at the corner of Chorro and Marsh streets, ending nearly a decade at its former Higuera Street location.

The store has long served as one of the university’s primary off-campus retail spaces, offering school-branded merchandise and student-made products to the San Luis Obispo community.

The move expands Cal Poly’s footprint downtown and places the store alongside the HotHouse, a coworking lab operated by the university’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Cal Poly’s presence in downtown San Luis Obispo dates back more than 40 years, with storefronts operating in the area since 1983 and relocating multiple times over the decades.

The building now housing the store had remained vacant for more than 10 years before Cal Poly secured a long-term lease through Cal Poly Partners. The organization oversees several auxiliary operations, including campus dining and the Mustang Shop.

The relocation itself took three days, with inventory and materials transferred from the previous location to prepare for reopening.

The new storefront opened shortly after Open House, marking a new chapter in the university’s ongoing relationship with the downtown community.
