Cal Poly Women’s Soccer earned a 0-0 draw against Cal on Thursday at Edwards Stadium, securing its first result on the Golden Bears’ home pitch since 2009.
Playing without team captains Sophia Minnite and Annika Smith, along with injured sophomore Farra Franklin, the Mustangs (2-2-2) relied on a strong defensive effort to keep the Golden Bears (1-2-3) off the scoreboard.
Cal had an early goal disallowed due to offside before earning a penalty kick in the 17th minute. Junior goalkeeper Shannon Porubski denied the opportunity, diving to her right to stop the spot kick taken by California’s Emelia Warta.
Cal held a 16-2 total shots advantage and a 3-0 edge in shots on goal. Still, Cal Poly’s backline, led by Siena Urzua, Lilly Cole and Mya Clarke, cleared away continuous attacks throughout the second half to preserve the draw.
Porubski recorded three saves to earn her 11th career clean sheet and her second of the season, marking the Mustangs’ third shutout this year.
Cal Poly will continue its road trip on Thursday, Sept. 10, facing Pacific at 6 p.m. in Stockton.
