Cal Poly has landed a commitment from three-star recruit Nathan Yambayamba, a class of 2027 Canadian prospect who held offers from both Cal Poly and Seton Hall but chose San Luis Obispo to play for Head Coach Mike DeGeorge.

Yambayamba is a 6-foot-7 forward from Edmonton, Alberta, and rated 301st nationally in the Class of 2027 by On3 Rivals Rankings. He is listed as the No. 58 power forward in the country and the No. 20 prospect in Arizona with a recruit rating of 82.67.

Yambayamba is a long, athletic wing who can get a bucket from anywhere on the floor. Yambayamba shot 44.4% from three during the 2026 FIBA U18 AmeriCup, where he averaged eight points over five games in Canada’s gold-medal run.

Yambayamba is now playing for the City Reapers, one of Overtime Elite’s (OTE) most accomplished programs. The Phoenix-based team won OTE championships in 2022-23 and 2023-24 and finished as runner-up in 2024-25. Its short history includes impressive alumni such as NBA guards Amen and Ausar Thompson, selected fourth and fifth overall in the 2023 NBA Draft, respectively, among many other highly rated players.

OTE is a basketball league and development program run by the sports media company Overtime, and it’s designed for elite recruits. This gives players in the league a platform to make NIL deals while retaining college eligibility. Players from the league can either attend college, go overseas or enter their name into the NBA draft. That has made OTE an attractive league for many young players and a growing recruiting ground for college and NBA scouts. The City Reapers roster currently includes five top-100 recruits across their respective classes.

Yambayamba is currently averaging 5.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1 assist across the first two games for the City Reapers. For Cal Poly, Yambayamba brings a combination of size, shooting and experience against the highest competition. He is the second verbal commit the Mustangs have gotten in this recruiting cycle.
